Indianola heads into Thursday’s game at Haileyville with a 1-4 boys’ record and an 0-5 girls’ record. After Haileyville, Indianola hosts Whitesboro on Friday.
Kiowa’s basketball teams swept Pittsburg on Nov. 12, but then got swept by Red Oak on Friday. The Cowboys beat the Panthers, 61-38, then lost to the Eagles, 40-36, to go to 3-2 this season.
The Cowgirls beat the Lady Panthers, 78-58, then lost to the Lady Eagles, 60-47, to go to 3-2 this season as well. Kiowa next plays at Stringtown on Thursday, then at Rock Creek on Dec. 7.
McAlester’s football team hosts Carl Albert in the Class 5A quarter-finals Friday at Hook Eales Stadium at 7 p.m. The Daily Oklahoman has named this matchup of the second-ranked Titans and third-ranked Buffaloes this week’s top playoff game statewide.
A Buffs win would mean the school’s third consecutive trip to the state semifinals, which would be played at a neutral location. McAlester would face either Lawton MacArthur or Pryor in the semifinals.
McAlester senior Cheyenne Selman signed her Letter of Intent to play softball for the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond on Monday at McAlester High School.
The Lady Panthers rebounded from a 78-58 loss to Kiowa on Nov. 12 by beating LeFlore on Friday 69-47, improving to 4-2 this season. The Panthers lost to Kiowa, 61-38, then to LeFlore, 73-55, to fall to 1-5.
Pittsburg hosted Savanna on Tuesday and next plays at home against Clayton on Friday.
Quinton basketball starts Dec. 3 at Warner. Quinton will then be at the Southeast Shootout at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester on Dec. 5-7.
Savanna’s football team will be in Afton on Friday to face the seventh-ranked Eagles at 7:30 p.m. A win against the District A-8 champions would mean a quarter-final against either Minco or Boone-Apache.
