Congressman-elect Mullin set for Friday town hall meeting in McAlester

McALESTER — District 2 U.S. Congressman-elect Markwayne Mullin planned to be in McAlester on Friday. Dec. 7,  for a town hall meeting, set for 11 a.m. at the McAlester Public Library, at the corner of Second Street and Adams Avenue.

“He’s visiting all 26 counties on a listening tour this week, getting input from constituents before he takes office,” said Tim Ross, a member of Mullin’s campaign who is set to become a member of Mullin’s staff once the new congressman takes office.

The 26 counties Mullin is visiting are those in the Second Congressional District, which Mullin is set to represent when the new session of Congress convenes early in 2013.

Mullin is set to be sworn into office on Jan. 3.

Mullin, a Republican, will fill the seat currently held by District 2 U.S, Rep. Dan Boren, a Democrat, who did not seek re-election to the post.

Mullin won the election to name Boren’s successor by emerging as the winner of the Republican primary, then by defeating Democratic candidate Rob Wallace and Independent candidate Michael Fulks in the Nov. 6 General Election.
