Task force busts meth lab in McAlester; recover stolen 4-wheelers

McALESTER — District 18 Narcotics Task Force officers took down an alleged methamphetamine lab on Harrison Avenue in McAlester.

According to court records, McAlester Police Officer Charlie Rogers was driving down Main Street on Nov. 19 when he noticed a truck crashed into a ditch with an ATV in the back. McAlester officers then checked a nearby business, Mayhem Motorworks, and “found that the fence had been cut and one purple ATV was outside the fence, along with a set of tools, cutters, and a red scooter lying in the ground outside of the fence.”

McAlester Sgt. Richard Parker had detained a man walking on Main Street, not too far from the scene of the alleged burglary, according to a police affidavit. Jason Heith Kidwell, 36, of McAlester, allegedly told police “that his water and electric had been turned off and the landlord was telling them to be out of the residence ... he (said) they had stolen the four-wheelers and he was attempting to get some money to get the water and electric turned back on ...”

Kidwell then allegedly told police that he would tell them where the other stolen four-wheelers were and who was involved in the alleged theft if they first allowed him to give his wife a hug and kiss good-bye before they took him to jail, the affidavit states.

McAlester police “took Kidwell to see his wife and tell her good-bye,” the affidavit states. Kidwell then directed police to a residence on West Harrison Avenue in McAlester, the affidavit states.

After securing a search warrant for the West Harrison Avenue residence, police used a loud speaker to ask those inside the residence to come out, the affidavit states. “After several attempts of identifying that the police were outside with a search warrant, and for (all the people in the home) to come to the front door ... the McAlester SWAT team began to clear the house ... SWAT found footprints up the wall into the attic through a crawl space.”

Police found Donna Sue Jackson, 37, and Nathaniel James Paulus, 31, hiding in the attic, according to the affidavit. Police also found alleged stolen four-wheelers and items associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine, the affidavit states.

Paulus, Kidwell and Jackson were charged Nov. 20 in Pittsburg County District Court.

Kidwell was charged with one felony count of second degree burglary.

Paulus was charged with manufacture of a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), knowingly concealing stolen property, maintaining a place for keeping /selling controlled substances, possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of public housing, misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor obstructing an officer.

Jackson was charged with manufacture of a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), second degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of public housing, misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor obstructing an officer.

All three remain in custody at the Pittsburg County jail and were unavailable for comment at presstime today. Kidwell is being held in lieu of a $15,000 bond, Jackson in lieu of a $75,000 bond and Paulus in lieu of a $125,000 bond.

Kidwell was due back in court Thursday at 9 a.m. Jackson and Paulus are due back in court Dec. 14 at 9 a.m.
