McAlester concert to feature big-name talent

McALESTER — It’s another step to “take McAlester back” — and this time it’s a free concert featuring an English actress and singer, a Grammy-winning drummer, a renowned local violinist and the McAlester mayor.

The concert is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday at the First Christian Church at the corner of  Third Street and Carl Albert Parkway in McAlester.

Michael Ginsburg, the award-winning violinist and fiddler who now lives in McAlester, is helping spearhead the event.

He said he will be joined by English actress and singer Victoria Summer, Grammy-winning drummer David Teegarden Sr., and Mayor Kevin Priddle.

“I’m really excited to bring this caliber of talent to the McAlester area,” said Ginsburg.

In addition to performing a variety of music, Summer is expected to talk about her experiences on stage and screen.

While Summer will sing, Ginsburg will play violin; Priddle will play guitar and Teegarden will bring his special drumming skills to the set.

Teegarden has played with artists such as Eric Clapton and Bob Seeger. It’s while playing with Seeger that Teegarden won his Grammy as a member of Seeger’s well-known Silver Bullet Band.

He also was the Teegarden in the 1970s duo, Teegarden & Van Winkle.

Summer has recently finished working in the upcoming film “Dracula Reborn.” She plays Lina Harker, identified as the object of Dracula’s affections in the modern-day horror film, set in Los Angeles.
