McALESTER — A “Charmed” boutique has opened in McAlester.

The boutique at 317 S. Second St. opened recently and business has been good, according to Rachel West, owner of the business.

West, 32, is a McAlester native and a McAlester High School graduate.

She said opening a boutique in her hometown was a dream come true.

“I can’t believe I’m doing what I love,” West said.

And she said what she loves is helping her customers find just the right outfit without spending too much money.

West said she goes to Dallas once a month to find new items for the boutique.

“I carry clothes for all sizes and all ages,” she said.

“My mom is over 50 and she shops here too.”

Before opening the boutique, West said she worked side by side with her husband at Suck-It-Up Carpet Cleaning, a business she and her husband have owned since 2006.

Meanwhile, West said the boutique is housed in a building that was formerly a chainsaw store and before that it was an ice-cream company.

And she said while cleaning out the building she and her husband found some interesting items.

“We tore down the duct unit and found some old ice-cream toppers,” she said. “I’m keeping those.”

Using much of the original interior, West said she transformed the empty building into a stylish boutique with the help of her friends.

“I have been blessed with some great friends who have really helped us a lot,” she said.

She said the store has been very successful so far and she is thankful.

“God has really taken care of me,” she said.
