McAlester man gets nine years federal prison time

McALESTER — A McAlester man was recently sentenced to serve nine years of federal prison time for a drug charge.

Elmer Don Whittaker, 52, sentenced to 108 months Thursday after previously pleading guilty to a charge of maintaining a drug-involved premises. Whittaker was indicted on the count in August 2012 after an investigation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.

“The charge arose from an investigation conducted by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration in cooperation with the District 18 Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, McAlester Police Department, Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department, Krebs Police Department, Muskogee Police Department, Tulsa Police Department, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs,” states a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee.

According to the press release, Whittaker allowed others to use his home in McAlester, from May 2011 to April 2012, for the purpose of distributing crack cocaine.

District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearing and Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Wilson prosecuted the case.
