Online voting to chose the name of the new McAlester dog park has begun.
The park has been in the works for months since McAlester’s Department of Parks and Recreation, Partners for Animal Welfare Society and Pride In McAlester came together to make the park a reality.
In May, a contest was held to gather submissions for names for the dog park and now it’s down to the final three choices.
Now, Pride in McAlester is asking the community to vote for the name which will be chosen from the three finalists: Bark Avenue, McAlester Bark Park and Central Bark.
Votes can be cast at www.prideinmcalester.com.
In March, the city of McAlester approved a $1 lease for a 2.64-acre lot from McAlester Public Schools. The lot for the park is , on West Seneca Avenue between B and C streets.
PIM Executive Director Stephanie Giacomo said half the funds for building the park have been donated, but more funds are needed.
“The city doesn’t have the money for this so we are raising money,” Giacomo said.
