Lakewood Christian School celebrates 32 years

From submitted reports

McALESTER — Thirty-two years ago, Lakewood Christian Church opened its school shortly after completing its new church facilities designed with both a church and a school in mind.

The school opened with 12 students.

The vision of the leadership and people of Lakewood Christian Church was to provide a school setting committed to a Christian philosophy of education that was based on the Bible. Lakewood Christian School enrollment was made available to anyone in the community.

Since 1981, thousands of students have attended LCS and have excelled in academic team competitions, cheerleading competitions and athletics.  In recent years both girl’s and boy’s basketball teams won state championships. The school has also had a National Merit Scholar, several writing scholarship winners.

The graduating class of 2013 numbered 13 and earned $102,925 in college scholarship money.

Many of the alumni have made their mark in the realms of higher education. They are corporate leaders, educators, attorneys, business leaders, doctors and ministers.

Lakewood Christian Church is now under a $2.5 million renovation of the church and school.
