Today is election day for voters in Pittsburg County’s District 3

McALESTER —

Today, is election day for voters in Pittsburg County’s District 3, as well as in the Crowder school district.
Plans called for polling places in District 3 as well as in the Crowder School district to open at 7 this morning (Nov. 12) and to remain open until 7 p.m.In the District 3 election, Republican candidate Miles Cathey and Democratic candidate Trent Myers are in a race to determine the new District 3 Pittsburg County commissioner.
The election is to fill the post previously held by the late Ronnie Young, who died while serving in office. Law enforcement authorities have said his death is under investigation.
Myers came out on top in a seven candidate field on the Democratic side during the October Special Primary Election, while Cathey won the two-man Republican race.
In today’s General Election, District 3 voters will be able to cross party lines for the first time in the county commissioner’s race. Independent voters in District 3 will be able to cast a vote in the race for the first time.
Also on the ballot Tuesday is a $560,000 school bond election in the Crowder School District. The race is open for all qualified, registered voters in the Crowder School District.
