An accident on U.S. Highway 69 sent an individual to the hospital Tuesday night.
McAlester Police Chief Gary Wansick said a call came in around 6:05 p.m. Tuesday that an accident had occurred on U.S. Highway 69, south of the U.S. Highway 270 overpass.
A vehicle was upside down, with gas leaking out of the vehicle at the time of the call, Wansick said. The southbound lanes on the highway were completely blocked by the wreckage, the police chief said.
The McAlester Fire Department responded with an engine and two ambulances, Wansick said. Only one individual ended up going to the hospital, according to available information from police.
Traffic was diverted off the highway for some time as the scene of the accident was cleared.
Further details, such as the cause of the accident or the names of the individuals involved, were not available Wednesday. Police from the Tuesday night shift were still working on completing the traffic reports, Wansick said.
