The Pittsburg County Genealogical and Historical Society held its September meeting at the J.J. McAlester Building.
The building is formerly know as “Hunt's Department Store” and is located on corner of Second Street and Choctaw Avenue.
During the meeting Ann Parrott spoke about the history of the building with emphasis on Hunt's Department Store. She said the building was built by J. J. McAlester.
The first occupant of the building was J.B. McAlester Hardware Company.
She said the Parrott family recently purchased the building and is in the process of remodeling.
The Pittsburg County Genealogical and Historical Society is an all volunteer non-profit organization that collects, indexes and makes local data and history available at no cost. The Society’s library is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and provides free research services.
