Taste of McAlester brings out hundreds of supporters

McALESTER — Hundreds of supporters were at the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southeast Oklahoma’s annual Taste of McAlester event on Tuesday evening.

“We are so happy to see the huge turnout,” said CASA board member Mike Parks.

For a $20 donation, guests dined on everything from sushi to pasta and were entertained by a live country and western band, Forever Young.

It was the biggest fundraising event of the year for the non-profit organization that recruits, trains and supports volunteers to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courtroom and in other settings, according to Parks.

He estimated this year’s event to be even larger than last year’s, which he said was the biggest ever for the organization.

“Everything just turned out great,” Parks said.

Those attending this year’s western-themed event filled their plates with food and drink choices from several restaurants including Lovera’s, Bricktown Brewery, In the Raw, Ben E. Keith Foods, Pete’s Place, Hunan Chinese, Lucy Two’s, Adelita’s, Chili’s, RibCrib, Western Sizzlin, Schlotzsky’s, Whispering Meadows Winery, Brangus, Taco Bob’s, Angel’s Diner and Lake Dawg BBQ.

During the event, Parks thanked the crowd and said every penny from the benefit will be used for the CASA program to help children.

Amanda Childers was one of the guests at the Tuesday night event. As Childers looked over the cheese selections from Lovera’s, she said she was having a wonderful time.

“I’m happy to be part of this,” she said.
