McALESTER — The Pittsburg County commissioners approved a resolution to advertise for construction of a fire department parking area and tabled a request to close a platted road during a regular meeting Monday morning.

The action happened  in the commissioner’s conference room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

The commissioner unanimously approved a resolution to seek bids for a concrete reinforced parking area at the Blue Volunteer Fire Station that will be paid for with Rural Economic Action Plan funds.

Also during the meeting the commissioners tabled a request to close a platted road in Morrison Acres after a public hearing was held on the request.

Morrison Acres property owners Wendy Knight, Leon and Donna Oliver told the News-Capital before the hearing that they don’t want the road closed because they use it to access their property.

Leon Oliver said this is the second time they’ve had to fight to keep their road open.

“We had to go through this in 2006 and it cost us $750 in court costs, Leon Oliver said.

The road closure was requested by a developer who owns property on the road, according the Sandra Crenshaw commission clerk.

Crenshaw said the commissioners will vote on whether or not close the road at a later meeting.

Attending Monday’s meeting was District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith, District 3 Commissioner Trent Myers and District 1 Commissioner Gene Rogers.

The Pittsburg County commissioners meet Mondays at 9 a.m. in the commissioner’s conference room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

The meetings are open to the public.
