Spring break

McALESTER — Students and parents prepare — it's time for spring break!

Yes, it is that time of year again when students of all ages get a break from their daily educational grind and get to enjoy the carefree ever-warming days of spring.

All Pittsburg County public school systems are taking spring break from Match 17 - 21, with the exception of Haileyville that will be out an extra day starting their spring break March 14, ending the 21.

There are also a few private schools, college and trade schools taking the March 17 - 21 spring break; Lakewood Christian, Kiamichi Technical Center, Premiere Academy of Cosmetology and Eastern Oklahoma State College - McAlester Campus.

Those who didn't set their clock forward an hour, at 2 this morning, may want to do it now — there is still a whole week of school to be on time for.

"This is a time for students and teachers both to rest and recharge as we begin the last 9 weeks of school, "MPS Superintendent Marsha Gore said. "This last nine weeks of school is filled with state testing, field trips, and other end of the year activities."

She said. "Looking ahead for McAlester Public Schools, we also look forward to the Outdoor Classroom Celebration, Oklahoma Buffalo Run, lots of sports (baseball, golf, tennis, soccer, and track) as well as spring band and choral concerts."
