Drug charges against a McAl. police officer were dismissed

McALESTER — A drug charge previously filed against a McAlester police officer was dismissed April 11.

Gregory Dillon Munholland, 26, was accused of distributing a controlled dangerous substance.

According to an affidavit, the drug charge was filed against Munholland because he was accused of giving a co-worker a pain pill when the co-worker complained about her foot.

In an 2011 interview, McAlester Police Chief Jim Lyles said, “The department received a reported narcotics violation by an officer of the McAlester Police Department. The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics was asked by me to investigate this report. The OBN investigated the allegation and turned a report in to District Attorney Farley Ward. At this time Officer Munholland has been put on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of court proceedings.”

When asked Wednesday if Munholland will be returning to work, McAlester Police Assistant Chief Darrell Miller said, “The department is still looking into the charges and we still have not received documentation from the DA’s office. Once we get those documents, we’ll look at the case and make our decision.”
