A free Downtown Celebration is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. on Choctaw Avenue.
“Come celebrate the completion of the 2013 “Great American Cleanup™” with Pride In McAlester and its volunteers,” said Stephanie Giacomo executive director of PIM.
Giacomo said PIM is hosting the celebration to honor the efforts put forward by local citizens and volunteers during the Spring Cleanup which ends Saturday.
She the event is free and it’s open to the public.
And there will be many activities at the event.
“Volunteers from First National Bank will be preparing
free food for attendees,” she said.
The food along with and music, a rock climbing wall, and
inflatable jumping houses will also be available at no charge, she said.
“Snacks such as popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy and soda also will be available along with activities such as Frisbee Spin Art, face painting, and temporary tattoos in exchange for tickets that will be sold for $1 each,” Giacomo said.
“Thanks to a partnership with Neighbors Building Neighborhoods, there will be a place to properly dispose of prescription medications at the event.”
She said each prescription disposed of at the event will earn participants one free ticket.
Saturday will also be the last day for the free Spring Clean up activities also sponsored by PIM.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. McAlester residents can dispose of household hazardous waste, prescription drug disposal, and paper shredding in addition to the bulk waste, metal, tires, and electronics, at the former National Guard Armory at 319 East Polk Ave.
