A young Edmond woman is alive after losing control of her vehicle and crashing into a tree early Wednesday morning on US Highway 69, a half-mile south of Kiowa, according to a report by Trooper Sean Mass of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The OHP, Kiowa Police and the McAlester Army Ammunition Fire Department responded to the early morning accident involving 16-year-old Blanca Medina-Santos.
“I don’t know how she survived,” said Kiowa Police Chief Tony Runyon.
“When I arrived at the scene we couldn’t tell what kind of a car it was; it was so bad.”
According to the report ,Medina- Santos was driving southbound on US 69 when she ran off the road way to the right, crashed through a fence and then struck a tree. She was freed from the vehicle by the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant Fire Department.
Medina-Santos was transported to McAlester Regional Hospital where she was listed in stable condition with injuries to her head, arm and leg, according to the report.
