County gets requested information

McALESTER — The Pittsburg County commissioners said they have received all the requested information on the city’s spending of E911 tax dollars.

The commissioners met Monday for a regular meeting at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

“We have copies of everything we asked for,” said District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith.

“We are still looking at all of it.”

During a January meeting the commissioners discussed a proposed letter that to follow up on a request sent to McAlester City Manager Pete Stasiak last year seeking information about the spending of E911/ 911 tax dollars.

Soon after the January meeting Stasiak told the News-Capital that he had delivered bits and pieces” of the requested documentation over the past year but he delivered the entire package the morning of that commissioners meeting.

The information the commissioners requested included detailed financial statements including copies of all audits for the 911 and E/911 funds from the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, to the present.

And the letter also requested that monthly statements be “provided to our office by the 15th of each month for the preceding month.”

“Attempts have been made to receive these in the past but (the statements) have never been received on a consistent basis and none have been received in the last six months,” according to the letter.

Commissioners also asked the city to respond to a second request that the 911 Dispatch Center become a “stand-alone” department. The letter states that “in March 2012, a subcommittee was formed to address this and other concerns, but as of today none of these concerns have been addressed.”

“As you know, even though this money is sent to the City of McAlester, it is still considered county tax dollars and needs to be monitored by the Board of Commissioners,” the letter states.

Before Monday’s meeting Smith said “We have a huge stack of information to look over.”

In other business the commissioners approved a request from the Oklahoma Department of Health and the Pittsburg County Health Department to enter into a lease agreement for pediatric audiology services at the health department.

The commissioners also agreed to advertise for a pediatric audiologist for the Pittsburg County Health Department.

Also attending Monday’s meeting were District 3 Commissioner Trent Myers and District 1 Commissioner Gene Rogers.

The Pittsburg County commissioners meet Mondays at 9 a.m. in the commissioner’s conference room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.
