It’s almost time to call to make arrangements to participate in the 28th Annual Pittsburg County Community Thanksgiving Dinner.
Those wanting to make reservations to participate in the community dinner or to have the meals delivered should phone (918) 423-7379, beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14.
The number, which is in Pittsburg County Treasurer Donna Srivner’s office, will be answered from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. during regular business hours, volunteers said.
Reservations need to be made by 5 p.m. by Nov. 25, which is the Monday before Thanksgiving Day, according to Pittsburg County Assessor Cathy Haynes, another volunteer working with the event.
“The reason for the deadline is so we can get a count, so we’ll know how many to cook for,” Haynes said.
Plans call for the free holiday dinner with all of the trimmings to be served at the George Nigh National Guard Armory, at the corner of Third Street and Polk Avenue, at noon on Thanksgiving Day.
Once again, the event will be open to everyone in Pittsburg County who wants to participate, with no age or income guidelines.
“I’m happy we’ve been able to keep it that way,” Haynes said.
Details are still being worked out as to what times home deliveries start, or what time Thanksgiving dinners will be available for carryout at the armory, according to Haynes.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with deliveries or who would like to work at the armory, either to help prepare the food or to help serve on Thanksgiving Day, can phone 918-423-7379 or 918-423-4726, Haynes said.
