McAlester Police officer a frequent victim of assault and battery

McALESTER —

Court records reveal that a McAlester police officer seen in a police video Tasering a handcuffed woman at point blank range, has been the victim in 10 times more assault cases than his fellow officers.

An ongoing investigation continues on the case according to Jim Lyles McAlester Chief of Police.

“Our findings along with any OSBI findings will be turned over to the DA,” Lyles said Friday.

In a June 24, police video McAlester Police officer Sterling Taylor is seen firing a Taser at point blank range at Nakina Williams, 28, of Okmulgee.

In the video, Williams, with her with her hands cuffed and lifted behind her on a counter can be seen spitting at Taylor who points the Taser at Williams striking her in left breast at point blank range.

 Williams was charged and later plead guilty to misdemeanor public intoxication, spitting on a police officer and felony assault on a police officer.

Along with this latest case, Taylor has been the victim in 14 cases of assault and battery since November 1, 2000.

According to court records there were 112 cases involving assault and battery on a police/peace officer filed in the Pittsburg County courthouse from November 1, 2000  to July 15, 2012.

Not including Taylor’s cases, the other 69 officers have been the victim of assault and battery on a police officer an average of 1.4 times during the reported time frame. (98 cases/69 officers). Officer Taylor has been the victim 14 times alone.

 That’s 10 times more than the average Pittsburg County law enforcement officer.

According to court records officer Taylor has been involved in 14 cases. Totaling an average of 10 times more assault and battery cases than the average Pittsburg County law enforcement officer.
