ODOT preps for maintenance on U.S. Highway 69

By MJ Brickey

McALESTER — Oklahoma Department of Transportation is preparing for projects on U.S. Highway 69.

Those who traveled George Nigh Expressway this morning may have noticed cones closing down inside north bound lane just as you get to where Comanche Avenue meet the expressway.

Rick Huddleston, ODOT Superintendent of Highways for our area, said the cones and lane closure is expected to last half the day and is only minor repair of a rough patch on an inside lane.

Brian Taylor, ODOT Maintenance Engineer, said there will be a larger maintenance project to come in the near future that will extend from the U.S. Highway 69 bridge to the Comanche Avenue and George Nigh Expressway area of the highway to smooth out some rough areas from the bridge to the “Walmart entrance area.”

Taylor added an overlay project will soon begin that extends from Savanna to Kiowa on U.S. Highway 69 in the north bound lanes.
