Search for turnpike suspect under way

McALESTER — Tracking dogs from the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office joined the search Saturday for a man sought by Troop XC of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The incident began along the turnpike Saturday when one driver allegedly rammed the vehicle of another driver on purpose, according to Oklahoma Turnpike Authority spokesman Jack Damrill.

Two individuals in the vehicles then got out and got into a fight, according to Damrill. He said the two knew each other. Damrill said he did not have the exact location available Saturday, but the incident occurred near McAlester, Damrill said.

At some time during the incident,  an Oklahoma highway patrolman headed for the scene.

“When the trooper arrived, one of the guys ran into the woods,” Damrill said.

OHP contacted the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office for assistance, he said. Tracking dogs were brought to the site, but the man who had ran away had not been found as of around 2 p.m. Saturday, according to Damrill.

Damrill said he expected a report of the investigation into the incident to be turned over to the District 18 district attorney’s office.

Troop XC of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is the troop that patrols the Indian Nation Turnpike.
