Art can be affordable

McALESTER — If a tight budget prevents the purchase of a one-of-a-kind gift like art hanging in a fine arts gallery, try buying a collection of smaller prints.

At the Southeastern Oklahoma Fine Arts Art Gallery at 30 E. Choctaw Ave. in McAlester, there are a variety greeting cards and matted prints by a few featured artists.

Greeting cards start at 25 cents by E.J. Barbee and go up to $5. Other greeting cards of photography and paintings by local artists Cindy Barr, Theresa Renegar, Anita Caldwell Jackson and Ted Welch are $3 each, or at a bargain price of five for $10.

And don’t forget where the gallery got its start by considering mural greeting cards at $3 each. These cards show a panoramic view of the mural “The Art Show,” which can be seen on the corner of Second Street and Choctaw Avenue. The mural led SOFA Inc. to open the SOFA Art Gallery in The Galleria Building on Choctaw Avenue.

The greeting cards not only make great souvenirs, by great gifts for an art lover.

If you can afford something a little bigger than a card, look through the baskets of prints. Most prints are matted and plastic wrapped and start at around $16.

And of course, if your budget allows an even larger purchase, feel free to shop the walls. You will find artwork from a wide variety of themes and content offered by more than 20 local artists.
