McAlester Home and Ranch Show slated for this weekend

McALESTER — Thousands of people are expected to attend the three- day McAlester Home and Ranch Show starting today and continuing until Sunday night at the Southeast Expo Center, organizers say.

On Thursday the Expo Center was full of people setting up the hundreds of booths from many the different vendors while large tractors other farm equipment were being brought in for display.

“We have more than 250 exhibitors, said Janelle Martin owner of C&M Production Group in Enid.

“We’ve had an amazing response,” Martin said.

“We have vendors from 9 states coming from as far away as California and New York and we have several local vendors as well. Its very exciting to see this happening here.”

She said she’s done this type of show in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and other cities but she was surprised at the number of vendors who coming to the first ever show of this type in McAlester.

And Martin said she’s expecting some 10,000 people to attend the three day show which runs Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission is $5 and children under 12 are free.

One of the vendors was John Hollingsworth manager of Grissom’s  Implement in Muskogee.

Hollingsworth said some of the equipment they brought in for the show includes five tractors, three gators, five lawn mowers and a haybaler.

Meanwhile Martin said those attending the show can expect to see everything from home improvement vendors such as landscaping, windows, kitchen remodeling vendors and siding and foundation repair contractors as well as boutiques and “as seen on T.V.” items.

Martin said special attractions at the show include Liz and Jessica from Swamp People, Katt Daddy and Copperhead from Mudcats who will bring along with their water dogs to do a show with their 40 foot Fetch and Fish aquarium.

She said there will also be helicopter rides and several giveaways at the show including breakfast with Liz and Jessica on Sunday, a four-hour fishing trip with Katt Daddy and Copperhead and a gas grill.

The Southeast Expo Center is a 4500 W. State Highway 270.

    Tonight, area residents are invited to join other community members in front of the old Hunts building at the northwest corner of Choctaw Avenue and Second Street in downtown McAlester to listen and to play music in an open street jam, karaoke, cruise-in and to enjoy one of McAlester's two downtown districts. Set-up starts at 6 p.m., jam will be underway by 7 p.m. and at approximately 8 p.m. karaoke all the while cars cruise in. Everyone should feel free to bring lawn chairs and grills, instruments and music equipment, or classic, modified, modern -- all -- show cars. There are no contests or prizes planned, just community fellowship.
