McAlester man gets 7 years prison time for making meth

McALESTER — A McAlester man was recently sentenced to prison for manufacturing methamphetamine.

Clint Eric Bess, 28, of McAlester, pleaded guilty April 3 in Pittsburg County District Court to one felony count of manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance. He was fined $800 and sentenced to serve seven years in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, followed by 10 years probation.

Bess was charged July 18 in Pittsburg County District Court with:

• Manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine),

• 33 counts of unlawful purchase of pseudoephedrine,

• Misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia,

• Misdemeanor driving with a suspended license, and

• Misdemeanor failure to signal on turning.

According to court records, Bess filed a motion to dismiss the paraphernalia charge and the 33 pseudoephedrine charges on Dec. 12. “On December 14, the Court entered an Order directing the State to file a response within ten days,” court records state. “No response has been filed,” and Bess’s motion to dismiss was granted.

The misdemeanor counts were also dismissed pursuant to a plea bargain agreement between Bess and the District 18 District Attorney’s office.

According to a police affidavit, Bess was driving on Carl Albert Parkway in McAlester on July 16 when he was pulled over by police. When authorities searched his vehicle, “officers found what was believed to be a shake (and) bake methamphetamine (lab) in trash bags in the bed of the vehicle,” a police affidavit states.
