The Pittsburg County commissioners approved a contract with Youngblood Construction in the amount of $81,500 for the building of a fire station for the Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
Youngblood Construction had the low bid, said Commission Vice Chairman Kevin Smith.
Also on the agenda Monday, commissioners unanimously approved the agenda, the meeting minutes from April 15 and blanket purchase orders. Commissioners also awarded weekly fuel bids.
In other action, commissioners recommended sending the City of McAlester a request for information regarding the 911 Oversight and Advisory Board. “This is a recommendation that the Oversight Board would like,” Smith said. “What the Oversight Board would like is for these questions to be sent to the City of McAlester to be answered and sent back prior to the meeting. It’s basically financial information the Board should receive in a more timely manner.”
Pittsburg County Office of Emergency Management Director Trent Myers said the 911 fund may be decreasing. “If that’s the case,” Myers said, “we need to do something about it prior to (the fund) going all the way down.”
Smith then said the information request will include financial statements of the 911 fund.
In other action, commissioners approved signing a deed of property to Hartshorne Public Schools. This small piece of property has been in the care of, and maintained by, Hartshorne Public Schools, Smith said. “It’s where their bus barn is,” he said.
Under new business, commissioners signed two road resurfacing plans. “We’ve been working on these projects for a year or longer,” Smith said. The plans came in on Friday and need to be signed prior to the next meeting to be able to acquire state and federal funds.
Pittsburg County commissioners meet every Monday at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Conference room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.
