Former McAlester-area resident man publishes ‘Faith in Rhyme’

McALESTER — Former McAlester-area resident J.D. Baskin has written a new book featuring 70 poems.

Baskin and his wife Eloise were both born and raised in Pittsburg County, having both graduated from Pittsburg High School.  Baskin left the area in the early ’60s and served in the U.S. Navy in the office of the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  They now live in Waco, Texas.

Baskin’s new book, “Faith in Rhyme,” became available earlier this month and is divided into five sections, each containing a message of faith:

Personal faith — The Christian life, which includes poems about the author’s personal faith experiences.

Faith through trials — Believing through life’s personal challenges, as well as trials relating to national and international troubles.

Faith in God’s word — Inspired by stories from the Bible, including stories about Jesus life as well as the lives of other Bible characters, such as Zacchaeus and Jonah.

Sharing the faith — Poems of encouragement for other Christians, such as keeping the faith as we age, as well as verses urging repentance for nonbelievers.

Eternal faith — Heaven, eternity and the second coming of Christ.

Baskin said much of his poetry was prompted when he awoke on many nights, from a sound sleep, at 2 and 3 a.m.

The book is available in paperback at Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com and at bookstores, or from the publisher at crosshousebooks.com.
