McALESTER — At approximately 7:32 p.m., a 2.9 earthquake shook the McAlester area, according to the United States Geological Survey.
Penny Bishop, of the Scipio area, said she heard a sound like thunder and felt the ground shake. She then checked an app on her iPhone that shows data from the United State Geological Survey, also known as USGS, and saw that an earthquake's epicenter only a few miles away.
She said she then took a screen shot of the app pin pointing the location of the earthquake.
Bishop sent the screen shot to McAlester News-Capital.
