Crews hurry to clear county roads

McALESTER — Area weather is expected to improve over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.

Today’s temperature is expected to reach 44 degrees with a slight chance of snow and rain on Wednesday.

It’s expected to warm up to 55 degrees on Thursday, and Friday’s weather is expected to hit a high of 64 degrees, according to NWS website.

Meanwhile on Monday, the Pittsburg County commissioners said their crews were trying to clear and salt the roads as quickly as possible.

“We’ve had a full crew working as fast as we can,” said District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith.

District 1 Commissioner Gene Rogers said he was relieved the weather wasn’t as bad as the last storm.

“We are just working to get the roads and bridges clear and safe,” Rogers said.

And District 3 Commissioner Trent Myers said his crews have been working since 4 a.m. salting roads and bridges.

“It’s still very slick, even with the salt,” Myers said.

Pittsburg County Emergency Management Director Kevin Enloe said there were very few electrical outages over the weekend and he said no weather-related accidents were reported.
