Body found at Hartshorne gas station

McALESTER — Officials say no foul play is suspected in the death of a man found behind a Hartshorne gas station early Saturday morning.

The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation, according to OSBI Investigator Gary Perkinson.

On Monday Perkinson said Manual M.J. Rivera, 45, was found near a trash bin behind Charles Sinclair Gas Station just after 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

“There were no signs of trauma and we have no reason to suspect foul play,” Perkinson said.

Harthshorne Police Officer Alvin Hendershot said Rivera was found fully dressed and was taken from the gas station by ambulance to McAlester Regional Health Center where he was pronounced dead.

Hendershot said Rivera was known to frequent the Flash N’ Dash convenience store on Pennsylvania Ave. in Hartshorne.

One employee of the Flash’N Dash said she knew him and said he will be missed.

“My husband was his friend and we were very sad to hear about his death,” said Carrie Roscoe.

“He came to our house several times.”

Meanwhile Perkinson said Rivera’s family has been notified and an official cause of death will be determined pending an autopsy by the Chief Medical Examiner’s office.
