Blood drive set at Kiowa

McALESTER — The Oklahoma Blood Institute will host a blood drive at  Kiowa High School on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donors participating in the drive will receive an OBI T-shirt, free health screenings and Donor Reward Points. Donors may choose to forgo the T-shirt to support the Global Blood Fund.

Those with O-negative type blood are especially encouraged to donate.

 According to AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks), those with O-negative blood type make up only nine percent of the national population; however, O-negative blood can be used by anyone in urgent need.

Donors 16 years old must weigh at least 125 and provide signed parental permission; those who are 17 must weigh at least 125 pounds, and those 18 and older must weigh at least 110 pounds.

Appointments are not necessary but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting www.obi.org.
