The Oklahoma Blood Institute will host a blood drive at Kiowa High School on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Donors participating in the drive will receive an OBI T-shirt, free health screenings and Donor Reward Points. Donors may choose to forgo the T-shirt to support the Global Blood Fund.
Those with O-negative type blood are especially encouraged to donate.
According to AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks), those with O-negative blood type make up only nine percent of the national population; however, O-negative blood can be used by anyone in urgent need.
Donors 16 years old must weigh at least 125 and provide signed parental permission; those who are 17 must weigh at least 125 pounds, and those 18 and older must weigh at least 110 pounds.
