Tomasi and Ward receive top honors

McALESTER — Mikayla Tomasi has been named valedictorian of the 2014 Lakewood Christian School senior class and Talon Ward was named salutatorian. Both are scheduled to speak at the Lakewood senior graduation to take place 6:30 p.m. May 16 at the Lakewood Christian School Sanctuary.

Lakewood’s valedictorian, Tomasi, has been a Lakewood Lion since first grade. She is the daughter of Gail Werner, of McAlester, and Richard Tomasi, of Canadian.

She has participated in the Eastern Oklahoma State College Curriculum Contest for the past three years. This year, she placed first in American Literature and third in Grammar Usage. She, through her years at Lakewood, has participated in Yearbook, Bowling, and several community service projects. She has been a concurrent student at EOSC since her junior year, and is working toward completing an Associates of Science degree. Northeastern State University in Tahlequah is where she plans to continue her education majoring in Physical Therapy.

Lakewood Christian School’s salutatorian, Ward, has taken advantage of the concurrent class offerings at Eastern Oklahoma State College, where he has earned credits since his junior year. He maintains a part-time job at Cinema 69 and still finds time to be a nationally-ranked Call of Duty player. He will be attending the University of Arkansas, where he has been awarded a non-resident in-state tuition scholarship.

His parents are Sean and Kathie Ward, of McAlester. He is the grandson of Benny and Diana Ward, of Broken Arrow; JoEllen Ward, of Broken Arrow, and Ron and Carole McGarrie, of Tulsa.
