Local artist exhibits art at the Capitol

McALESTER — A McAlester High School graduate will exhibit her art in a one- woman art exhibit at the Oklahoma State Capitol through Feb 10.

Pamela Husky, a fiberartist for more than 37 years, will be exhibiting her Fiberart the East Wing Gallery of the Oklahoma State Capitol through Feb. 10. 
She said she was invited to do the show by the Oklahoma Arts Council.
At the exhibit, Husky said she has 17 pieces on exhibit and many of them depict images of Lake Eufaula where she currently lives with her husband and her many pets.
“I am exhibiting work created in the last two years,” Husky said
She said she creates all of her art at her studio at her home on Lake Eufuala.
“One piece will take me about five hours to complete,” Husky said.
She said she’s been teaching for most her career.
“I have twenty years of art teaching experience including Oklahoma Artist-In-Residence and University of Central Oklahoma Art Faculty,” she said.
At the gallery her exhibit will feature, Water Works, felted and woven landscapes created from hand-dyed wool and silk fiber; Fiber Landscapes, hand-dyed felted wool and silk; and, her Woven Tapestry she created by hand-dyeing and spinning the wool and silk for the yarn used in these large weavings.
The eldest daughter of McAlester residents, Drue and Bob Saunier, Husky is an University of Oklahoma Master’s Graduate in Art History and Art Education.
She said her work has received national and state awards over her 37 year career.
The Capitol is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
