McALESTER — After the sudden death of the mother of young Kiowa girl, two mothers have joined with members of the Kiowa  community to help raise money to help the girl’s family.

On Sunday a spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be held at noon at the Kiowa School cafeteria with all benefits going to the Smith family of Kiowa.

Kiowa residents Shauna Jarvis and Kari Peterson along with  and Becky Harden a teacher at Kiowa School said they just wanted to do something to help the Smith family after Kelly Smith died of a brain annuerism in November.

Kelly was the mother of 12-year-old Jesse who attends Kiowa School and is a member of the the Family Career and Community Leaders of America organization at the school. Harden is the advisor for FCCLA and she said her students wanted to help too.

“Our group will serve the dinner and provide the desserts,” Hardin said.

Jarvis and and Peterson said they have been collecting donations to be auctioned at the dinner such as dinner at Pete’s Place.

“This community has been wonderful,” Peterson said.

“They really want to help.”

Jarvis said they have collected quite a few items from local businesses that will be auctioned at the dinner but they are still accepting donations.
