The annual Children with Disabilities Chistmas Party starts at 1 p.m. on Dec. 1 and those who want to attend must register by Nov. 28.
Oklahomans for Independent Living representative Leeanna Amos said Children with disabilities, even if they’re not old enough to be in school that have an IEP, are welcome to attend the Christmas party with their families, Amos said.
But first, parents, caretakers or guardians must call OIL at 918-426-6220, or toll free at 1-800-568-6821, to register children with disabilities and siblings attending that are under 15, so organizers will know how many and what type of presents to buy — it is required.
Just as soon as families decide to go, it is best to call and register, she said, adding that the absolute deadline to register is Nov. 28.
The only requirement is that the disabled child is 15 or younger and any siblings that attend must be under 15 to receive a gift.
“There are usually a lot of people and there will be a lot of food,” Amos said. “All we ask is for those attending to bring a store bought cake or pie.”
Amos said she estimates the event will serve approximately 200 people, but the event has served as many as 240 in the past.
We are accepting toy donations at a $15 minimum and will accept monetary donations for anyone who would like to donate to the program.
All donations are tax deductible and can be sent or dropped off to OIL at 601 E. Carl Albert Pkwy. in McAlester. If a signlanguage interpreter is needed, please call as soon as possible. For more information, call 918-426-6220 or toll free at 1-800-568-6821.
