Students of Frink Chambers Early Childhood Center didn’t allow a chance of rain stop them from marching in the parade for the Week of the Young Child, Wednesday morning.
Several schools were set to participate but only Frink showed up at the Choctaw Ave. start location.
“No one told us it was cancelled,” said Kathy Stipe the teacher who brought the busload of 4 and 5-year-olds to the parade sight.
But that didn’t stop the students from having thier own parade.
Holding ballons and dressed in matching bright green shirts, the Frink Chamber students marched down the sidewalk of Choctaw Avenue in honor of the Week of the Young Child.
Several parents of the Frink students were at the location dressed in matching green shirts.
Cyndi Gray of McAlester said her daughter Aubrey, 5, was marching in the parade.
“She was excited to be in the parade today ,” Gray said.
Meanwhile Stipe said she’s never missed a parade in her 23 years teaching at Frink.
“I’ve been at every one of these parades,” she said.
The parade was apparently cancelled because of the chance of rain, according Megan Duff of Ki Bois Community Action one of the organizers of the event.
Meanwhile Stipe said after the parade the children were headed to the park for a picnic.
