Students and faculty in the 16 career and technology education programs at Kiamichi Technology Center's McAlester Campus are celebrating National Career and Technology Education Month in February.
Among the special activities scheduled is the 44th annual Open House to be held Thursday evening from 4 until 6.
The theme of the month-long celebration is Career and Technology Education Super Heroes.
“During the open house celebration, CareerTech students will demonstrate skills learned in class that are preparing them for college or high-wage, high-demand career fields. We extend a special invitation to anyone who would like to learn more about KTC and its programs to visit us during our open house,” said April Murray, director of the McAlester Campus of KTC. “We would like the public to understand the variety of skills students are acquiring. By partnering with the business community, career and technology education prepares students to become successful employees as well as future leaders.”
A special invitation is also being extended to the parents and families of the 10th-grade students at 14 area schools that send students to the McAlester KTC Campus. The students attend either a two-hour or three-hour block during the morning or afternoon session each day. In recent months, the students have toured the campus with their school, but the open house will give parents and other family members a chance to also tour the campus. The open house will feature demonstrations, and handouts or door prizes in each of the 16 full-time programs. In addition, there will be a grand prize given away — a picnic table.
Refreshments will be served throughout the Open House.
