Jan. 31 will be the 10th — and last — year that McAlester Radio personality Kevin Dean will stand atop Cavender’s Western Outfitters for the Human Popsicle fundraiser.
Since Dean started this event, he has raised nearly $64,000, he said.
He said at 6 a.m., he and his wife Renodda, will stand on the roof of the western apparel store and lower a bucket tied to a rope for people to put their donations until he reaches his $10,000 goal.
Last year, he said, he raised a little over $7,000 and he stayed on top of the building for 12 hours, but this year he said he said he will not come down until he has reached his goal — even if it takes days.
Dean said this year is his final year due to his health.
“I will be giving way prices like a big screen TV,” Dean said. “And more.”
There will be live entertainment, he said. He said there will also be Human Popsicle 10th Anniversary t-shirts given away to those giving a $20 or more donation.
The early morning low that day is expected to be 36 degrees and the mid-day high is expected to be 53 degrees. Every year, Dean changes his charity of choice.
This year all donations are going to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Dean said the most collected during a human popsicle event is $14,000.
Donations can also be dropped off at the radio station or mailed to the Human Popsicle P.O. Box 1068 McAlester, OK 74502.
