Planning has begun for this year’s free “Clown Around at the Baby Fair 2014” set for April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southeast Expo Center, organizers say.
Last year, more than 1,000 people took part in the event, which is designed for all ages and geared towards family camaraderie, according to LaDell Emmons.
Emmons is the Family and Consumer Sciences educator for the Oklahoma State University Extension Service in Pittsburg County.
Emmons said this is the 17th year of the Baby Fair.
And 35 agencies and groups have already agreed to participate in the event, Emmons said. But there is still room for more booths.
There is no charge to host a booth but nothing is sold at the fair.
“This is strictly educational,” Emmons said.
“We want to promote the small child and families.”
Groups and agencies that wish to set up a booth are encouraged to gear their activities towards families, grandparents, parenting and small children.
And in keeping with the “Clown Around” circus theme of the fair, Emmons said there will be several events for children and families to participate in, including a parade.
“We will have an ‘I am wonderful’ parade and the children are encouraged to wear their circus costumes and take part,” Emmons said.
The Southeast Expo Center is at 4500 W. Hwy. 270, west of McAlester.
