Woman alleges being held captive

McAlester police who responded to a call of an injured and bloody woman barging into a home on South C Street found a woman who was indeed battered and bloody —but they were unable to confirm her story that she had been held captive for days.

However, the more police investigated her story, the more they questioned elements they said did not check out.

The incident began Thursday when a bloody woman who had been walking down the street carrying a long knife ran inside a residence and claimed she had been held captive.

Residents at a home on South C Street were startled  when she ran inside their residence, but tried to help her and contacted an ambulance and police.

Police confirmed the woman had stab wounds and had both old and new bruises, as well as a black eye, but were unable to confirm her reports of how she got them.

“She said she had been kidnapped and held at a house on West Delaware,” said McAlester Police Det. Capt. Chris Morris.

Police went to the house, but found nothing to substantiate the woman’s story, according to Morris. They did find some blood in the house, he said.

“We found a small amount of blood on the kitchen floor,”  he said.

On Friday, police were trying to find the person who lived at the house, Morris said.

Police also talked to a sibling of the woman who said she had been with her during some of the time the first woman had told police she had been held captive by another individual, he said.

The woman was transported to the McAlester Regional Health Center, Morris said.

Initial suspicions police had that the woman was under the influence of drugs were confirmed, according to  Morris.

He said toxicology reports confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and opiates in her system.

Police were not able to verify the source of the cuts on the back of the woman’s head and on her foot.

Morris said police were planning to talk to the woman again when she had time to sober up from the drugs in her system.

Police wanted to see if her story would change when she was no longer under the influence, he said.
