Man charged with cruelty to animal

McALESTER — A local man has been charged with cruelty to an animal after allegedly shooting a roaming cat with a broad tip arrow in February.

Delain Breshears, 46, was charged Thursday after law enforcement accused him of shooting a cat after he allegedly found it in his chicken pen on Feb. 14. Breshear allegedly told deputies who responded to a call that he saw the cat going after his chickens at his residence on Tannehill Road and then shot the arrow at the cat, according to a Pittsburg County deputy sheriff’s affidavit.

Deputies were called because a neighbor allegedly found a blood trail starting from his garage and moving to the west side of his property. The neighbor would eventually find out that the alleged blood was from his cat when Breshear voluntarily came out to speak with the authorities.

According to a police affidavit, it is believed that the arrow fell out of the cat. No blood was found in the chicken pen according to police.

According to court documents, the cat was found by its owner and the owner hoped he was going to be able to save it. However, no information about the cat’s health was available as this article was being prepared for publication.
