Double trouble in Pitt. County

McALESTER — Pittsburg County saw two alleged incidents last week that landed both suspects with similar charges.

Samantha Evans, 24, of McAlester, and Angela Bedford, 41, of Hartshorne, had unrelated run ins with the law on back-to-back days that caused them both to be charged with possession of a controlled substance (synthetic cannabinoids- K-2), a felony, and misdemeanor driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia on Monday. Evans also was charged with misdemeanor transporting an opened container of beer.

Evans was arrested on June 6 after being pulled over for allegedly speeding six-miles-per-hour over the posted limit. She was also allegedly swerving.

According to a police affidavit, Evans was having trouble standing upright and her speech was slurred.  Kiowa Police Officer Cody Poe wrote in his affidavit that he found a “metal pipe generally associated with the use of narcotics.”

In the affidavit, Poe says that “Evans showed clues of being under the influence.”

She was booked in the Pittsburg County Criminal Justice Center before eventually making bail.

Bedford was allegedly found about 100 yards away from her vehicle that was in a ditch. According to a police affidavit she had allegedly admitted to smoking K-2 before driving, and allegedly her speech and stance were unsteady when officers arrived.

She was booked at the Pittsburg County Criminal Justice Center and eventually made bail.

Evans could face 12 and a-half years if she is convicted and receives the maximum sentience for her four counts and Bedford could face 12 years if convicted.
