Pride In McAlester to host annual banquet

McALESTER — Pride In McAlester will host its fifth Annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. at The Grand Event Center.

The event will include dinner, award presentations, a celebration of PIM accomplishments and a silent auction. Funds raised from the silent auction will be used to finance the various community activities held throughout the year, including painting projects, litter pickups and community events. The auction will include locally obtained products to help promote McAlester businesses.

Pride In McAlester volunteers contributed 1,598 hours to the community last year and helped citizens  dispose of waste through the Spring and Fall Cleanups. Volunteers hosted or participated in 36 projects including litter pickups, education, painting, planting, cleanups, community events and promotion of recycling, according to the organization.

The banquet will honor PIM supporters, including the Volunteer of the Year, the Pride In McAlester Spirit Award, Outstanding Student and Community Partner of the Year.

The Volunteer of the Year award is given to a member who regularly contributed time, resources and hard work to the organization and enthusiastically promoted the mission of PIM throughout the year.

The Pride In McAlester Spirit Award will be presented to an individual, family, organization, church or business who displayed a commitment to the enhancement of the McAlester community through beautification efforts, sustainability and green initiatives or who dedicated time and resources to making McAlester a cleaner, safer and more beautiful place to live and work.

The Outstanding Student award is presented to a McAlester area student who contributed volunteer hours to the betterment of the community, promoted civic engagement among their peers and demonstrated leadership qualities.

The Community Partner of the Year award recognizes an entity that partnered with PIM during 2013 on the completion of a community beautification or enhancement project.

The event is open to the public and tickets are $25 and are available for purchase through Monday. To purchase a ticket, visit PIM’s website at www.prideinmcalester.com or call 918-426-4444.
