McALESTER — The deadline has been extended for those who want to participate in the 28th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, but have not already signed up to do so.
Volunteers originally asked those who wanted to participate to sign up by 5 p.m. Monday so those planning the meal could get an accurate count of how many participants to expect.
However, in an effort to make sure everyone who wants to take part in the holiday meal can do so, volunteers plan to continue taking calls through Wednesday.
Anyone who still needs to sign up should phone 918 423-7379, said former Pittsburg County Assessor Jim Kelley, one of those helping plan the event
“We will continue to take calls until we leave Wednesday,” said Kelley, referring to the time volunteers will leave the George Nigh National Guard Armory when that’s day’s work is done.
The meal is open to anyone who wants to participate, with no age or income guidelines in place. Home deliveries are available for Pittsburg County residents who can’t make it to the armory.
Plans call for the meal to be served at the armory, at Third Street and Polk Avenue, at noon on Thanksgiving Day. Carry-outs are expected to be ready by 11 a.m. on Thursday.
