Choctaws host faith based concert and educational event

McALESTER — The Choctaw Nation is hoping for a great turn out to a free faith-based concert and suicide and depression education event called “Love Never Fails,” according to Melanie Norris Jones event coordinator.

The free event is set for 6 p.m. on Jan. 16 at the Southeast Expo Center.

Jones said education is just part of the reason for the event.

“We also want to uplift and encourage people,” Jones said.

The event will feature motivational speaker Eric Weaver and a concert by Christian recording artist Jonny Diaz.

She said Weaver provide a real life no-nonsense faith-based approach to the issues of mental health and mental illness.

During his presentation, Jones said Weaver will talk about warning signs and symptoms of stress and depression, stigmas, communications skills, recovery and suicide awareness and prevention.

After the speaker, Jones said Diaz a top Christian recording artist, will perform some of his top hits including “Scars,” “A More Beautiful You” and “Stand For You.”

Although the public is invited, Jones said some material discussed may not be appropriate for young children and childcare will not be provided.

To register call 918-302-0052.

The Southeast Expo Center is at 4500 W. State Highway 270, McAlester.
