Dakota Wood considers himself an expert on military defense issues — and he wants to be the next U.S. Congressman to represent McAlester.
Wood, of Claremore, traveled to McAlester on Friday as part of a trip across the eastern part of the state to announce his candidacy for the 2nd District Congressional seat in Congress.
The District 2 seat is now held by U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, D-Muskogee, who plans to complete his current term, but says he will not seek re-election to the post in 2012.
While in McAlester on Friday, Wood sat down for a wide-ranging interview with the News-Capital.
A Republican candidate for the seat, Wood calls himself a strong pro-life conservative who supports a balanced budget amendment. He also said he’s a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
