McALESTER — A free gospel bluegrass concert is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at the McAlester First Baptist Church.

Local musicians and the Downing Family will perform for the second free community event of the year, according to Mike Pruitt, organizer for the First Baptist Television Ministry.

“Our special night starts with a few opening numbers by Oklahoma’s Dylan Hall and McAlester’s very own Lynda Hunter and will roll right into an hour long concert with The Downing Family,” Pruitt said.

He said The Downing Family are long-time Silver Dollar City performers in Branson, Mo. and was recently voted the most requested bluegrass group within

the park.

“Their unique style and personally written songs are the Downing’s signature contribution to America’s gospel bluegrass scene,” Pruitt said. “Everyone will enjoy a great night of bluegrass music with Jennifer on the fiddle, Angela on the

mandolin, Luke on the guitar, Randy on the bass and Mark on the banjo.

“We are so blessed to have them here.”

The event is open to the public at the church at 100 E. Washington Ave.
