Seagulls in McAlester?

McALESTER — Seagulls in McAlester? For the last several years one local resident has noticed what appeared to be seagulls flying around the Tandy Town shopping center. “I have always noticed seagulls flying by the Long John Silvers in Tandy Town,” said Steve Keys of McAlester. “I just wondered where they came from and if it’s unusual.”

“First, there is no such thing as a Seagull. They are Gulls, said John Turnaukus a resident bird expert. “They are found over the seas, over the land and over lakes and rivers. That's is why they are not Seagulls but Gulls,” he said.

“ It took me a few years to correct myself when speaking about these great birds.”

He said its not uncommon to see Gulls in Oklahoma and all over the interior of the US as well as other countries.

“Finding Gulls in the interior is very common since many gulls move inland during the winter, Turnaukus said.
