Personnel at the Oklahoma Insurance Department are tired of people being ripped off — and they’re ready to do something about it.
“We’re hosting an Anti-Fraud Conference on July 12,” said Brian King, public information officer with OID.
The conference Thursday is set for 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Southeast Expo Center, King said. Registration and a free breakfast is scheduled at 8 a.m.
“It’s especially for seniors, to help them avoid and fight fraud,” King said. “It’s for things like Medicare fraud, funeral home trust fraud and contractor fraud,” he said, mentioning a few examples.
Sometimes contractor fraud follows in the wake of natural disasters, “a lot of the time, when severe weather comes through,” King said.
While the conference is free for senior adults and includes breakfast, a $25 fee is in place for insurance and law enforcement professionals seeking continuing education credit.
Those who would like to participate in the Anit-Fraud Conference are asked to pre-register, King said. The reason pre-registration has been requested is so organizers will have an idea of how many breakfasts to prepare, according to King.
He said those wanting to attend can register by phone at 1-800-763-2828.
They can also register on-line at www.ok.gov/oid/Public_Information/Events, according to the statement from the Insurance Department.
